The default printer is automatically managed and updated by the operating system.

In Windows 11, the default printer is automatically updated to the one most recently used. This behavior has been in place since Windows 10, starting with build 1511.

To disable this setting and prevent the default printer from changing automatically, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Start menu by pressing the Win key or clicking the Start button.

  2. Click [Settings].

  3. Click [Blutooth & devices] and select [Printers & scanners].

  4. Switch the [Let Windows manage my default printer] setting to [Off].

  5. Choose the default printer.
